Waiting

Believe me when I say I came across this story this morning and even though I had seen it before, it blessed my entire existence. I’ll tell you why later. First, the story.

Yesterday afternoon, I decided to treat myself to a great meal so I walked into the restaurant of a five-star hotel. After going through the menu, I ordered some food. After about twenty minutes, a group of men and women walked in and ordered their food. To my dismay, these folks got served first. I watched as they began to eat and laugh heartily. I even overheard one of them bragging about how connected he is to everyone in the hotel. I felt mocked. I decided to leave.

Unable to take it anymore, I called the waiter. He calmly explained to me: ‘Yours is a special order being prepared by the head chef himself. Their orders were prepared hurriedly by junior chefs because the senior chefs were busy with yours. That is why they were served before you. Please have some juice as you wait.’ I calmed down and waited patiently.

Shortly thereafter, my food came. It was brought to me by six waiters. I did not realize that the owner of the hotel was an old friend, who had seen me as I walked in and he had changed my order to surprise me. So my simple meal had been changed to a five course meal.

As I settled in to eat, I caught the other party at the other table out of the corner of my eye, and I think the look on their faces as they stared at me can only be described as shock. All of a sudden, they were the ones murmuring and wondering why they did not have a similar experience.

Such is life! Some people are ahead of you and are eating now, laughing at you and making comments about how much better, wiser and smarter they are than you; how blessed, well connected and rich they are; how they are enjoying life. You have been waiting, wondering why it is taking so long to break through something or make it to a certain point. You have endured mockery and humiliation. Maybe you have contemplated suicide, or gone through depression, or gone through severe mental anxiety. Don’t worry. The owner of the world has seen you trying and he doesn’t want you to be served a routine solution like those of the people mocking you. You’ve been waiting for a while because yours is a special solution. It takes time to prepare, and only the head solution provider prepares it. So relax and wait for your solution. When it comes, that laughing party will be silenced for good. For ever.

So the last few days, I’ve been feeling some type of way, because I felt like I’ve been wanting some things for a while, and I’ve done everything I know to do and nothing has changed. And so when I read that, I rested a little bit. So I’m waiting now…
